Tell us a little about your business. What do you offer, and what makes it unique?
Merge Barbershop is your go-to spot in Hutto, TX for high-quality haircuts and grooming services, but we’re more than just a barbershop. Our mission is to merge small businesses with the community by featuring local products, hosting events to bring the community and small businesses together, and creating an environment where people can come and connect. We have a team of eight skilled barbers who offer a wide range of services including haircuts, beard grooming, and specialty add-ons like nose and ear waxing, eyebrow shaping, and more. What makes us unique is the combination of high skill, our prime location in the heart of Downtown Hutto, and our commitment to building community through everything we do.
How did your journey as a business owner begin? What inspired you to get started?
My journey as a business owner really began when I moved to Hutto and experienced what a truly close-knit, connected community looks like. I saw a need for a barbershop that offered more than just haircuts, a place where people could feel a sense of belonging. I wanted to be part of the community and the growth that I had come to admire so much. I knew I could create not only a great barbershop, but also a space that encourages connection, supports small businesses, and contributes to Hutto’s continued growth.
How long have you been in business, and why did you choose Hutto as your home base?
I’ve been in the barbering industry since 2015. My husband and I moved to Hutto in 2020 for his education, and I worked at a barbershop in Downtown Hutto for a short time, that’s when I really fell in love with the area. I knew then that when the time came to open my own shop, it had to be on East Street in Downtown Hutto. I waited patiently for the right space to open up, and now here we are. I absolutely love being part of Downtown Hutto, there’s something special about being right in the heart of the community, especially during local events and gatherings.
What’s been one of your most memorable moments as a business owner?
Some of my most memorable moments as a business owner have been during community events where Merge Barbershop gets to be a part of the action. We open both double doors, welcome walk-ins, hand out free water, do giveaways, sell merch, and spend the whole day connecting with people. It’s a chance to really share what Merge Barbershop is all about, building relationships, and supporting the community. Those days are always special and remind me why I started Merge Barbershop in the first place.
What do you think makes the Hutto community special?
The amount of Hutto pride is honestly like nothing else. The hippos are a perfect example, who in Hutto doesn’t own a hippo or at least one piece of hippo-themed clothing? What really makes this community special is how eager people are to support small businesses and be part of the city’s positive growth. There’s a strong sense of belonging here, and people genuinely want to see each other succeed.
What advice would you give to someone just starting a business here?
My advice would be to get involved in the community and take the time to connect with other small businesses. When you show up and support others, they’ll do the same for you. Hutto has a strong sense of local pride, and building those relationships makes a big difference when you’re just starting out.
When you're not working, where can we find you around town? (Favorite coffee, food, or hangout spots?)
When I’m not at the shop, you can usually find me playing pickleball, spending time near any kind of water, or grabbing a bite at my favorite local spot, Happy Panini. I love staying active and enjoying all the little gems Hutto has to offer.
Anything exciting coming up you'd like the community to know about?
We’re hosting our first annual Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, August 2nd at The Picklr in Round Rock, and we’d love for the community to come out and play! All skill levels are welcome, and it’s going to be a fun way to connect, compete, and celebrate. We’ll be featuring prizes, giveaways, discounts, and more from all our Downtown Hutto businesses.
