- Wellness Tips: Water and More
Have you ever felt low energy all day, even after a power nap, or 6-8 hours of sleep? Or drained after eating a big meal? Well, here are some things to consider, from a professional massage therapist. As humans, diet plays a big role in our energy levels everyday. If you are wanting to improve how much you sparkle, and shine each day, your diet is where you need to start. Now ask yourself, “what does my diet mostly consist of?” I know it can be so tempting to pick up a coffee first thing in the morning on your way to work, or pick up an energy drink to give you a quick boost during the day. However, please take my words seriously when I say this … RESIST. You must RESIST. I know the path of less resistance is what we humans would prefer, but to break any bad habit and form a healthier one, you have to force yourself to make some changes. So, may I suggest to you, lovely readers, to try this instead. TIP: Every morning when you wake up, and every night before you go to bed, drink one cup of warm-hot water. You can put lemon in it, and maybe a drizzle of honey (for you of those that just can't STAND the “taste” of water) to about 8 Oz of water everyday, and you may notice a difference in just a few days. TIP: On an empty stomach, let it be the first thing that you consume every morning, and the last thing you consume every night. Drinking warm water will aid in digestion, hydration, and metabolism! Warm water has the ability to help with muscle tension, and relaxation, and I know we can all use that day to day, am I right? TIP: Are you active during the day? Then probably a water bottle every hour would work for you better. Whatever you got to do, get that water intake in. Make it the baseline for the start of a healthy diet. Your relationship with water must be better. Improving your water intake can help with skin, and immune system by flushing out toxins from your body, especially after a great massage. Speaking from experience, I always felt less sore, less tired, and had less acne on my face whenever my water intake is solid. I am able to relax more, and I promise your LMT will thank you because water does half the job at taking care of those knots in your shoulders, neck, and all muscles in general. Drinking more water help me be able to break up those stubborn knots in my clients muscles, and reintroduce proper circulation in their body for an even more relaxed affect that will last you days longer than without a healthy water intake. Dehydration in your body can make knots more stubborn, and harder to deal with, so might as as well make your trip to the spa worth it even more. TIP: Throwing a cup or 2 of veggies, and fruit a day will in fact keep the doctor away. I recommend the Mediterranean diet for any of those looking to have more energy, and appear younger, and feel healthier just after a few months. Take a step back from sodas, and chips, and invest more time and energy into going for a 30 minute walk a day. For those of you who really struggle fighting your cravings, go on a 15 minute walk every time you get the urge to eat something you know isn't healthy. Maybe even do 5 chair squats to keep your mind off of the tempting sugars and salty foods. Challenge yourself, and then reward yourself with a bowl of fruit, nuts, dark chocolate, or your favorite veggies. Like mine it crunchy green beans. The crunch of a green bean can be so satisfying to me at times. All this can start with one simple action a day, DRINK MORE WATER. I hope you found this little tip from an LMT a little motivating. Next time, I will discuss a little more about the Mediterranean diet, and incorporating simple exercises in your daily routines that I guarantee will fit into your hectic day. Have a great day, and an even better week ! Brought to you by Massage Therapist of Healing Rabbit, Leeya Yates FAQs Q: Why do I feel tired even after 6–8 hours of sleep? A: Low energy despite adequate sleep can be linked to dehydration, poor diet, blood sugar spikes, and lack of movement. Hydration and balanced nutrition are foundational to steady daily energy.** Q: Can drinking warm water improve energy levels? A: Yes. Drinking warm water first thing in the morning and before bed can support digestion, hydration, circulation, and muscle relaxation—all of which contribute to better energy.** Q: How much water should I drink each day? A: While needs vary, increasing daily intake consistently is key. Active individuals may benefit from drinking water hourly. Start by making water your first and last drink of the day.** Q: Does dehydration affect muscle tension and massage results? A: Yes. Dehydration can make muscle knots more stubborn and harder to release. Proper hydration improves circulation and can help massage therapy results last longer.** Q: What diet supports better energy levels? A: A Mediterranean-style diet rich in vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, lean proteins, and whole foods supports sustained energy, improved skin health, and reduced inflammation.** Q: What simple habits can boost daily energy naturally? A: Drink more water, reduce soda and energy drinks, eat more fruits and vegetables, and add a daily 15–30 minute walk. Small consistent habits create long-term energy improvements.**
- Working All Week or Home With the Kids? Let’s Talk Spring Break.
For Every Kind of Hutto Family, Because We Don't All Look the Same By LaToya Collins-Jones Spring Break is almost here, Hutto families! Let me paint a few pictures for you. There's the parent who has spring break off and is staring down a full week with two kids, a half-formed plan, and a lot of caffeine. There's the parent who doesn't get spring break and has to clock in Monday morning while figuring out what to do with their kids. There's the single parent doing it all alone. The grandparent stepping in. The two working parents tag-teaming schedules and trading favors with neighbors. The family whose budget is tight and the one who's ready to splurge on something memorable. Here in Hutto, we are all those families. And this guide is written for every single one of you. Spring break doesn't look the same for everyone. What matters isn't what the week looks like on paper. What matters is that your kids feel loved, engaged, and present with the people who matter most to them. That's achievable whether you're home all week or logging in from your laptop at 9am. You don't have to be available every hour to make this week meaningful. You don't have to go far to go big. Some of the greatest adventures are right outside your front door. First: Know Your Family's Week Before you plan a single activity, get honest about what your week actually looks like. Not the ideal version. The real one. Are you working full days? Part days? Working from home? Do you have a partner sharing the load, or are you navigating this solo? Do your kids need structured activities to thrive, or do they do fine with unstructured time? Is budget a constraint this year, or do you have room to invest in an experience? There's no wrong answer to any of those questions. But answering them honestly is what makes the difference between a week that flows and a week that frays. Here's a simple framework to get started: Working full-time? Your priority is to find quality daytime care or programming, and then to plan 2-3 intentional evening or weekend moments to connect. Working part-time or flexible hours? Build your big activities around your off-hours and lean on low-cost local options for the rest. Home all week? Great! You have the most flexibility and also the most pressure to keep everyone engaged. Give yourself permission to not fill every hour. Co-parenting or single parenting? Coordinate schedules early in the week, identify your anchors, and don't be afraid to ask for help from your village. Hutto has one. For the Parents Who Are Still on the Clock I want to speak directly to you for a moment, because you deserve to be seen in this conversation. Not everyone gets spring break. Plenty of Hutto parents who are teachers at other districts, healthcare workers, retail employees, remote professionals, and entrepreneurs are still going to work this week while their kids are home. If that's you, please hear this: you are not failing your children. You are providing for them. Those are not in conflict. The goal isn't to manufacture a week you can't deliver. The goal is to maximize the time you have and ensure your kids are safe, engaged, and cared for while you're doing what you must do. Daytime Solutions for Working Families This is where advanced planning pays off the most. Here are your best options right here in the Hutto area: Hutto Parks & Rec Spring Break Exploration Camp (ages 5-12): A full-day structured program at Hutto Elementary School, 7am–6pm. Kids get field trips, physical activities, and social time, and you get covered hours that actually work around a work schedule. Register at huttotx.gov as soon as spots open. Local childcare providers and in-home daycares: Many Hutto-area providers offer spring break weekly rates. Post in local Facebook groups and Nextdoor now. There may be other working parents who have vetted options they're happy to share. Camp swap with another family: Know another working parent? Trade coverage days. You take their kids Thursday, they take yours Friday. It costs nothing and builds community. Trusted teens and college students: Spring break means local babysitters and college students (home from UT, Texas State, and ACC) are available and often looking for work. Post early. Grandparent week: If you're lucky enough to have family nearby, spring break is prime time to ask. Frame it as a gift, because it is, for everyone involved. 😉 Making the Most of Your Mornings and Evenings To my working parents: you are experts at making the most of limited time. Apply those same skills to spring break. Start each morning with ten intentional minutes before the day splits off. Pancakes, a quick game, a walk around the block. That small investment sets the tone. Plan one 'big' evening activity mid-week. It could be dinner somewhere new in Hutto, a visit to Hutto Lake Park after work, or a backyard s'more night. One meaningful anchor in the middle of the week goes a long way. Let the weekend do heavy lifting. Save your bigger day trips or special activities for Saturday and Sunday when you're fully present. Be honest with your kids about your schedule. Kids handle reality better than we think, and they appreciate being talked to, not managed. Your kids don't need you every minute. They need you fully present in the minutes you have. The At-Home Spring Break Deserves Its Own Moment Whether it's a budget thing, a tired thing, or simply a preference thing, staying home for spring break is a completely valid choice. I'd argue some of the best spring break memories are made without ever leaving the zip code. Backyard camping night: tent, s'mores, stargazing. Kids never forget it. Neighborhood Olympics: sidewalk chalk games, water balloons, egg-and-spoon races. Invite neighbors and make it a block event. Cook something new every day: let each kid pick a recipe. Cooking together is a life skill wrapped in a memory. Plant a container garden: a spring break project that grows all summer long. Volunteer as a family: check local Hutto community boards for events and cleanups. Showing kids how to give back is a lesson that outlasts any theme park visit. Declare a 'yes morning': say yes to the reasonable, joyful things they ask for. Blanket fort at 8am? Yes. Sprinkles on everything? Absolutely. The memories your kids carry into adulthood aren't about how much you spent. They're about how present you were. Universal Survival Tips For Every Family No matter what your week looks like, these hold true across the board. Plan ahead, even loosely. A rough anchor for each day prevents the 11am 'I'm bored' spiral. Set a budget before the week starts and let it guide you…not stress you. Give kids one choice per day. Ownership reduces complaints. Dramatically. Accept that something will go sideways. The detour is often the best part of the story. Connect with other Hutto families on local Facebook groups and Nextdoor. The collective knowledge of this community is extraordinary. Let yourself off the hook. You are doing enough. You are enough. Don't Sleep on Your Own Backyard Whether you have all week or just pockets of free time, Hutto has more going on than most people realize. These options work for every family type. There are options for a drop-in, full-day, and everything in between. Hutto Public Library Spring Events Free. And genuinely excellent. The Hutto Public Library runs special spring break programming. Morning and afternoon sessions make it easy to fit around a work schedule. Check huttotx.gov for the latest lineup. The Hippos of Hutto Tour This one could end up being your favorite because it costs nothing, works for any age, and you can do it in an hour or make a whole afternoon of it. You can find hippos all throughout the city or turn it into a family or neighborly scavenger hunt. It's one of those activities that sounds simple and ends up being genuinely memorable. Hutto Lake Park Forty acres of pure Hutto charm. Hutto Lake Park has a fishing pier, a kayaking dock, 1.25 miles of trails, a basketball court, and a playground wrapped around a beautiful lake. It's one of those places that works for a quick after-dinner walk just as well as it does for a full Saturday morning. Bring the fishing poles. Let the kids explore. There's no agenda required here. Adam Orgain Park Orgain Park is a go-to for active families, with open green space, playgrounds, fishing, and a setting that makes it easy to just show up and let the kids run. Pack snacks, stay as long as you want, and let the outdoors do the work. Hooky Entertainment A full-blown entertainment destination right in our own backyard: IMAX and dine-in movie theaters, 12 bowling lanes, a 5,500-square-foot arcade, a full restaurant and bar, private event spaces. It's open 10am–1am every day, which makes it perfect for a rainy afternoon, a family birthday, a weeknight treat, or an evening out after work. One stop, every age covered. Check showtimes and book bowling at hookyentertainment.com . VirtropolisVR For families with older kids or teens, VirtropolisVR offers immersive virtual-reality escape-room experiences built around teamwork. It's a fantastic option for a weeknight treat or a weekend afternoon. Visit virtropolisvr.com for hours and booking. Day Trips for When You Have a Full Day to Give When you do have an uninterrupted day, whether that's a weekend, a day off, or a scheduled personal day, these Central Texas options are well worth the drive. ★ Natural Bridge Caverns Cave tours, ziplining, gem mining, a massive maze, a ropes course, and a wildlife safari. A full-day adventure for every age. naturalbridgecaverns.com ★ Tubing the Guadalupe or Comal River, New Braunfels A Central Texas spring break tradition. Book tube rentals in advance because spring break dates sell out quickly. ★ Landa Park, New Braunfels Spring-fed wading pool, miniature train, mini golf, four playgrounds, hiking, and sand volleyball. Beloved by families for good reason. landapark.com ★ Dig World Texas's first heavy construction equipment theme park. Kids operate real equipment across 3.5+ acres of hands-on fun. Unique, affordable, and genuinely thrilling for younger kids. digworld.com ★ The Texas Hill Country Bluebonnets peak in late March and April, making spring the most beautiful time to drive out to Johnson City or Fredericksburg. Live music, wineries, big skies, and space to breathe. This Week Belongs to Your Family, All of It Here's what I want to leave you with, Hutto: spring break doesn't belong to any one type of family. It doesn't belong only to the parents who are home all week, or the ones with flexible schedules, or the ones with bigger budgets. It belongs to all of us…the working ones, the exhausted ones, the figuring-it-out-as-we-go ones. You will not do this perfectly. You will miss a nap window, or miscalculate a drive time, or discover that the place you drove 45 minutes to is inexplicably closed. You will fail, you will laugh, and possibly cry, but above all else, you will rejoice in the fact that you showed up for your people. That's the whole job. And you're already doing it. Show up with intention. Lead with love. The rest takes care of itself. What does your spring break look like this year? Working, traveling, staying home? Tell us, tag iHutto on social and show us how Hutto families do spring break. Every version of it. - You Don’t Hate Working, You Hate That Job
You know the feeling. You’re burnt out in your role at work. It’s hard to get motivated and you don’t even like what you do anymore. You want a change, but don’t know where to start. First, you are NOT alone. Thousands of people go through this every single day. This is extremely common and it’s hard. It just seems even harder when all you’re hearing is about a poor economy, how difficult it is to get a job and dealing with imposter syndrome at the same time. Now is the time to take a breath. This is not a change to be done swiftly, but rather broken down into more palatable bites. If you’re looking for a place to start, think about what you enjoy doing. Think about what you’re good at and how you can leverage those knowledge, skills and abilities. Ask yourself, what are some things that I’ve done in my career that I’m proud of? It’ll help you reframe your mindset to more positive aspects of your success. Next, start researching different jobs that utilize those skills. Explore. Go down the rabbit hole online. Talk to friends. Research. Talk to AI. Let yourself follow the internet wormholes and identify things that interest you. Once you narrow down areas of interest and start identifying titles and types you’re interested in, now it’s time to look at the requirements. Assess what’s expected and research what you need to do and ways you can upskill yourself to better align with those types of roles. There are plenty of online resources for free and affordable courses such as Alison.com , Udemy and Coursera. Also look into local certification courses through your local community colleges and universities that offer boot camps, resources that are often overlooked. Now that you have identified your path and you’re almost ready to move forward, start networking and reaching out to people in the type of roles you’re looking for. Instead of asking them for a job or connection, ask them about their story and see if they have any advice on breaking into the field. You’d be surprised at how willing people are to share their knowledge and help you out. Finally, make sure your resume is prepared and highlights your most transferrable skills. You never know when that right role you want to apply for is going to pop up. Show actionable, impactful statements that demonstrate not only your transferable skills, but how you’ve used them to bring value and positive change. Change doesn’t happen overnight, so give yourself grace during this time period if you can. You’ve got this. FAQs Q: What are the signs of burnout at work? A: Common signs include chronic exhaustion, lack of motivation, irritability, decreased performance, and feeling disconnected from your work. If you dread Mondays every week and feel emotionally drained most days, burnout may be the cause.** Q: How do I start a career change when I feel stuck? A: Start by identifying your strengths, interests, and proud career moments. Research roles that align with your transferable skills, then explore upskilling options and begin networking with professionals in those fields.** Q: What are transferable skills and why do they matter? A: Transferable skills are abilities you can apply across different roles or industries, such as communication, leadership, problem-solving, and project management. Employers value them because they demonstrate adaptability and real-world impact.** Q: How can I upskill without going back to school full-time? A: Use online learning platforms, certification programs, boot camps, and local community college courses. Many offer affordable, flexible options that allow you to build in-demand skills without committing to a full degree.** Q: How do I network without asking someone for a job? A: Focus on relationship-building. Ask professionals about their career paths, lessons learned, and advice for entering the field. Most people are more willing to help when you’re seeking insight rather than a direct job request.** Q: How should I update my resume for a career pivot? A: Highlight measurable achievements and emphasize transferable skills relevant to your new target role. Use action-driven statements that show how you created value, solved problems, or improved outcomes.** Brought to you by: Stephanie Welt, MSW, MSHRM is the founder and CEO of VAST HR . - Is Joining the Hutto Chamber of Commerce Worth It? Pros & Cons for Local Business Owners
Let me start off by saying, iHutto is not affiliated with the Hutto Chamber of Commerce. While I am a member, my goal to is to bring valuable resources to small business owners, NOT to push a membership on you. To be honest, it's not for everyone. If you’re running a business in Hutto, Texas, or thinking about starting one, you’ve probably heard folks talk about joining the Hutto Chamber of Commerce like it’s some kind of secret VIP club. But is it actually worth your time and money? Let’s break it down. I’ll tell you straight: sometimes yes, sometimes no , but mostly yes if you’re serious about growth, community impact, and not doing this entrepreneur thing alone. PROS of Joining the Hutto Chamber of Commerce 1. Credibility & Visibility One thing customers love? Seeing you’re official . Being a chamber member signals professionalism and local commitment. Think of it as social proof, except it’s real and not just star emojis on your site. Chamber events give you: Direct access to other business owners Warm referral sources Cross-promotion opportunities Collaborative partnerships One solid referral partner can pay for your membership 10x over. 2. Networking Opportunities You’re going to meet other business owners, local leaders, and potential collaborators. For a creative entrepreneur or service provider, this is gold. This isn’t a snooze-fest mixer, it’s a place to find your next referral source, partner, or even customer. 3. Marketing & Promotion Most chambers offer features like: Business directory listings Ribbon cuttings Event sponsorships Social media shout-outs These amplify your brand in front of your own community , not just the world at large. Before joining, ask them how often you are given a shout-out on their social, how their directory listings benefit your business, and if there are event sponsorships specifically for your size business. Just because they have sponsorship opportunities doesn't mean you'll always be able to afford them. 4. Access to Local Decision-Makers City leaders, economic development folks, and community advocates regularly show up to chamber events. If you want influence in Hutto’s growth, this is where you’ll find it. 5. Support & Resources Workshops, training, business tools, and expert panels are often part of the membership. You’ll get insider tips without the Googling uphill battle. 6. Discounts & Member Perks From bulk buying programs to event discounts, many chambers negotiate deals specifically for members. For small budgets, that can add up fast. CONS of Joining the Hutto Chamber of Commerce 1. Membership Fees Yep, it costs money, and for a tight startup budget, that can sting. If you’re not ready to activate membership perks, it can feel like a waste. For small business owners, the fees may not be worth it. The good thing is, you don't have to be a member to attend their after hours networking events. It's a good way to see if your business would "vibe" well with the Chamber. 2. Time Commitment Networking and events are great … but also time-sucks if you go in unfocused. You have to show up and engage, just joining doesn’t do the work for you. 3. Variable ROI Not every business sees a huge return right away. If you join and do nothing with it, you might feel like you paid for a fancy business card instead of results. If you: Sell purely online with no local angle Serve clients nationwide only Don’t need community visibility Your ROI may be limited. 4. Not Always Targeted to Your Industry If you’re an online entrepreneur with zero need for local foot traffic, some chamber benefits might not move the needle much. 5. Events Are Not Free Even as a member, you will still have a booth fee to pay for any Chamber events you want to participate in. So… Is It Worth It? Short answer: Maybe, if you’re proactive about leveraging it. Who Should Join (And Who Probably Shouldn’t) You Should Join If You: Serve local clients in Hutto Own a storefront, service business, or professional practice Want referral partnerships Plan to attend events consistently Care about long-term brand positioning If you’re serious about building a recognizable local brand, this is a strong move. You Probably Shouldn’t Join If You: Your budget is tight Never plan to attend events Don’t enjoy relationship-based marketing Only sell digital products online Need immediate cash flow and can’t wait for relationship ROI If you’re stretched thin and can’t commit to participation, wait . Here’s the real test: 👉 Are you willing to show up, participate, and use the benefits offered? If yes → you’ll get value out of it. If no → you’ll wonder why you paid for another membership badge. Tips to Maximize Value Go to events early and leave late — that’s when real convos happen. Sponsor something — even small sponsorships get big attention. Ask for referrals — business owners love sending business to members. Track your ROI — how many leads, clients, or collaborations came from your membership? Final Verdict Being part of the Hutto Chamber of Commerce isn’t just an expense , it’s an investment in your business’s future, reputation, and community presence. If you show up with intention, you will benefit . Think of it as joining the cool kids, except these cool kids have jobs, influence, and clients to send your way.

- City Council Highlights from February 19th Meeting
Courtesy of Peter Gordon, Hutto City Council Place 4 and provided here with his permission. This recap is from the February 19th City Council meeting. Photo courtesy of Peter Gordon To watch the meeting, go here . Here are the highlights from that meeting: Item 6.1 Council made more appointments to vacant spots on the Historic Preservation Commission and Zoning Board of Adjustments . We still have vacancies for the following Boards/Commissions: - Building & Standards - 1 vacancy - Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging - 1 vacancy - Zoning Board of Adjustments - 3 vacancies for alternate members - TIRZ Boards #1, #2 & #3 - each have 1 vacancy Item 7.1 Council received updates on our current transportation projects , including which projects are on time versus behind schedule, and what staff is doing to get these back on track. We already fired the contractor who was installing the light at Limmer Loop and Innovation due to continued unjustified delays. We gave notice of potential default to another contractor. We've made it clear that our contractors need to adhere to committed deadlines. Item 7.2 Council gave preliminary approval to an industrial park on the east side of town (where Limmer Loop intersects with HWY 79). This was originally going to be a mixed-use development with industrial and multi-family, but they changed to industrial only, greatly reducing their water and wastewater needs. They'll receive primary water from Jonah SUD, with emergency fireflow water coming from Hutto temporarily until Jonah can supply that as well. Item 8.5 Council authorized the acceptance of several acres of parkland next to the Emory Crossing neighborhood. This will become a community park open to all residents , but will be developed and maintained by the Emory Crossing developer and subsequent owners. Item 9.1 A majority of Council rejected a proposal to require exempt (salaried) employees to start reporting time worked like hourly employees. I was one of four council members who voted against this proposal last night. Much discussion was had last night and also in the January 8th meeting where this was first proposed. I'm glad a majority of Council agreed with some of the concerns I raised, and raised their own concerns. Item 9.2 Council instructed staff to give us design details on a proposed Certified Autism Center playground at Hutto Lake Park (which was originally planned to be standard playground equipment). We asked to see the specific designs and equipment that would be used before making a decision, which will come back to us in our next Council meeting. Item 10.1 Council approved a Request for Proposal (RFP) from various rideshare companies for on-demand Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) service in Hutto. More to come on this one. Item 10.3 A majority of Council also rejected a proposal to prohibit the City Mana ger from continued participation in the Texas Certified Public Manager Program , which he has been involved with since long before his employment with the City of Hutto. Council originally approved his involvement in this program at the time of his hiring, and we reiterated our support again in 2023. There have been some misunderstandings by the public about what the program is, and the amount of time he spends supporting it. Last night, City Manager Earp provided a detailed explanation of the program and the level of his involvement, which is limited to less than 12 hours per month, or one day per month. I asked myself how hypocritical it would be for me to forbid my employee from giving back to the community in this way, while asking my employer to allow me to do the same in serving on City Council? I encourage you to watch the detailed discussion from last night's meeting for a better understanding of what this is and how it benefits Hutto, as well as discussions around the topic. Link to the meeting is provided below. Written by Peter Gordon, Hutto City Council Place 4
- How Using Your Blog Attracts Search Engines (And Why Ignoring It Is a Mistake)
Are blogs still a good way to attract new customers? If you own a business, run a media brand, or sell anything online, your blog is not a “cute extra.” It is your long-term traffic machine. Search engines are not sitting around waiting for your homepage to impress them. They are scanning the internet constantly looking for: Fresh content Specific answers Keyword relevance Authority signals User engagement A blog helps you deliver all of that, consistently. Let’s break down how it actually works. Blogs Give Search Engines More Pages to Index Search engines like Google rank individual pages, not entire websites as a whole. If your website has: Home About Services Contact That’s 4–5 opportunities to show up in search. But if you publish: 50 blog posts 100 blog posts 300 blog posts You now have 50, 100, or 300 additional indexed entry points into your business. Each blog post becomes its own digital doorway. More doors = more chances to be discovered. Blogs Let You Target Specific Search Queries Your homepage might target broad terms like: “Marketing Services” “Real Estate in Texas” “Small Business Consulting” But blogs let you rank for specific questions people are actively typing into search engines. For example: “How to optimize Google Business Profile for plumbers” “Is joining a local Chamber of Commerce worth it?” “How to fix low engagement on Facebook” Specific content wins. Every time. Search engines prioritize helpful, relevant answers. Blogs allow you to provide them in depth. Fresh Content Signals Activity and Relevance Search engines favor websites that are alive. If your website hasn’t been updated in two years, that’s a red flag. Blogging consistently tells search engines: This site is active This brand is engaged This content is current This business is relevant Freshness matters, especially for topics involving: Local news Business resources Marketing strategies Industry updates Blogs Build Topical Authority When you write multiple posts around a central theme, you build what’s called topical authority. For example, if you run a local media platform and publish: Local event coverage Small business spotlights Real estate updates City council summaries Economic development news Search engines start to recognize you as a reliable source on that subject and region. Over time, your domain becomes associated with that topic cluster. That’s how authority is built, not by one viral post, but by consistent depth. Blogs Improve Internal Linking Structure Every blog post is an opportunity to: Link to your services Link to other blog posts Link to lead magnets Link to contact pages Internal links help search engines understand your site structure. They also keep visitors browsing longer, which increases dwell time (a positive ranking signal). Think of your blog as the spider web connecting your entire website. Blogs Increase Backlink Opportunities Other websites rarely link to service pages. But they do link to: Research Guides Statistics Informative articles News breakdowns High-quality blog content attracts backlinks. Backlinks signal authority. Authority improves rankings. It’s a cycle: Helpful content → Backlinks → Higher rankings → More traffic. Blogs Help You Rank Locally For local businesses, blogging is a hidden advantage. Writing about: Local events Local regulations Local business resources Local partnerships Community issues Helps you rank for geo-targeted searches. Search engines love hyper-relevant content tied to specific locations. If you want to dominate your local market, blogging is not optional, it’s strategic. Blogs Capture Long-Tail Traffic Long-tail keywords are longer, more specific phrases with lower competition. Example: “Best marketing agency” (very competitive) “Affordable social media marketing for small businesses in Central Texas” (much more targeted) Long-tail searches convert better because the user already knows what they’re looking for. Blogs are the best tool for capturing this type of high-intent traffic. Blogs Support Every Other Marketing Channel Your blog fuels: Social media posts Email newsletters Lead magnets SEO Paid ads Authority positioning Without content, you’re constantly scrambling for something to post. With a blog, you create once and distribute everywhere. That’s leverage. Blogs Attract Traffic While You Sleep Paid ads stop when you stop paying. Social posts fade after 24–72 hours. A well-optimized blog post can generate traffic for years. Evergreen blog content compounds. That’s the power move. The Bottom Line Search engines are designed to deliver the best answers to users. If you consistently publish high-quality, relevant, strategic blog content, you are giving search engines exactly what they are programmed to reward. A blog is not just a content platform. It’s your: Visibility engine Authority builder Lead generator Traffic compounder Digital real estate portfolio If you’re serious about growth, blogging isn’t optional. It’s infrastructure.

- Five Reasons Kids and Teens Start Their Own Business
While researching for my current book project, WHEN OPPORTUNITY BARKS, LET HIM IN stories of kids finding opportunity in business, I was interested in the motivations of why kids and teens started their own businesses. This essay focuses on the top five reasons for launching a business enterprise. 1. They’re influenced by role models - A few of the stories I’ve received from children mentioned following the footsteps of a creative parent or friend into artistic pursuits that led to wanting to offer their creations for sell. A featured story tells of two sisters that was influenced by their mother’s crafts business. While young, they learned the creative process and marketing skills at their mother’s knee. The sisters are now creating jewelry and other items for sale at local markets. Other kids are influenced by YouTube and TikTok content creatures and successful entrepreneurial friends. One might say, “Success nearby makes it feel possible.” 2. They want money of their own - Not just allowance money, earned money” is a powerful motivator.Kids want things, not necessarily given to them, and they see that making their own money those desires can be realized. I met one young entrepreneur that is setting aside money for her own living expenses for college. Another started her car detailing business to relieve pressure from her parents’ financial difficulties. Starting a business feels empowering and fair: “If I work harder or smarter, I make more and the more I have I can get the things I want.” 3. They want independence and control - Closely related to Reason #2, having independence is freeing to young entrepreneurs. Choosing their hours, their rules, and their ideas beats being told what to do. Will they make mistakes? Sure, but the kid's resilience will likely win-out. Even small autonomy feels huge at that age. 4. They’re good at something specific - Kids and teens often develop skills and expertise through their education, interests, or hobbies be it gaming, art, coding, editing videos, fixing bikes, caring for animals, collecting action figurines, or baking, business often starts as “people keep asking me to do this.” Making money is a natural extension of their passions. 5. They enjoy the challenge and thrill - Some kids are entrepreneurial by heart, risk-takers, if you will! Creating an idea and seeing it through. Making the first sale. Getting a repeat customer. Watching numbers grow. It’s a game, but with real consequences and real wins. At an Acton, Academy Children’s Business Fair nearby, I saw natural kidpreneurs proudly …boldly…fearlessly promote their business and sell their wares. They enjoy the challenge of doing something on their own and the thrill of moving toward success. Let me know what you or your child’s motivation is for doing business. Thig’s Diamond Haircuts is a full service, professional barbershop offering premium haircuts, beard grooming, and a welcoming environment for men, women, and families. What makes us unique is our commitment to excellence, consistency, and community. We focus not only on top notch grooming, but also on creating a space and culture where people feel respected, heard, and valued. For us, barbering is both a craft and a calling. How did your journey as a business owner begin? What inspired you to get started? My journey began long before opening the shop. I started cutting hair at a young age and eventually pursued barbering professionally. The inspiration to open my own business came from a desire for ownership, freedom, and the ability to positively impact others, especially young people. I wanted to build something that represented integrity, faith, hard work, and opportunity. How long have you been in business, and why did you choose Hutto as your home base? We opened Thig’s Diamond Haircuts in 2016, so we’re approaching 10 years in business. I chose Hutto because it felt like home, family-oriented, the growth potential. At the time, downtown Hutto was a place where I felt called to plant my roots and serve the community. Since then we have moved around the a bigger building because of our growth. It’s been an honor to grow alongside the city. What’s been one of your most memorable moments as a business owner? One of the most memorable moments has been realizing the impact the shop has had beyond haircuts. Cutting young men who now have families, seeing young barbers grow, families returning to support on a consistent basis and the community truly embracing what we’ve built. Knowing that the shop has become a safe, positive space for people means everything to me. What do you think makes the Hutto community special? Hutto has a genuine sense of togetherness. People support local businesses, look out for one another, and take pride in where they live. There’s a strong balance of small-town values and forward growth, which makes it a special place to build a business and raise a family. What advice would you give to someone just starting a business here? Be patient, be consistent, and get involved in the community. Build real relationships, not just transactions. Stay humble, stay teachable, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you serve the community well, the community will support you. When you're not working, where can we find you around town? When I’m not in the shop, you’ll usually find me spending time with my daughters, reading, writing, producing music, selling real estate, (Yes I'm a realtor and I love helping families find forever homes, and businesses find good locations to open businesses!) I'm always supporting local events, or grabbing food around town as well. I enjoy supporting other local businesses and staying connected to what’s happening in the community. Anything exciting coming up you'd like the community to know about? Oh yes! 2026 marks our 10-year anniversary, which is a huge milestone for us. We’re planning special celebrations, community focused events, and some exciting expansions. We’re grateful for the continued support and look forward to many more years serving Hutto, surrounding areas and beyond!
