Kids love play dough. There is something about making things with their own two little hands that makes them so happy. Try this recipe for homemade play dough that can be used over and over again (as long as you keep it properly stored).
Ingredients
4 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
4 Cups Water
4 Tablespoons Oil
1/2 Cup Cream of Tarter
2 Drops Food Coloring, if desired
Instructions
Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan.
Cook and stir over low to medium heat until dough is completely formed and no longer sticky.
Allow to cool slightly before storing in airtight container or large Ziploc bag.
Add food coloring to dough to make the color you desire.
Tip for Cream of Tartar Substitution
The secret ingredient here is cream of tartar. This makes the recipe not grainy and keeps for a long time. If you are unable to buy this much cream of tartar, you can use one part baking soda and one part baking powder for the tartar.
Storage
To store the homemade play dough simply use a container that has an air tight lid or use a gallon size Ziploc bag. As long as you store it properly, the play dough will last longer and not dry out. By using Ziploc bags makes it easier for transport to grandma's house or to the park!
